I. Classification and Typical Grades of Stainless Steel
Austenitic Stainless Steel
Common Grades: 304 (06Cr19Ni10), 316 (06Cr17Ni12Mo2), 321 (06Cr18Ni11Ti)
Features: Non-magnetic (may exhibit weak magnetism after cold working), high corrosion resistance, excellent ductility and toughness, suitable for low-temperature environments.
Ferritic Stainless Steel
Common Grades: 430 (10Cr17), 409 (022Cr11Ti)
Features: Magnetic, stress corrosion resistant, but poor weldability and lower cost.
Martensitic Stainless Steel
Common Grades: 410 (12Cr13), 420 (20Cr13)
Features: High hardness, wear resistance, heat-treatable for strengthening, but relatively weak corrosion resistance.
Duplex Stainless Steel
Common Grades: 2205 (022Cr22Ni5Mo3N), 2507 (022Cr25Ni7Mo4N)
Features: Austenitic + ferritic dual-phase structure, high strength, chloride corrosion resistance, but challenging to process.
Notes:
304L/316L are low-carbon versions (C ≤0.03%) to reduce intergranular corrosion risks.
321 contains Ti (≥5×C%) to stabilize carbides.
Duplex steels contain nitrogen to enhance strength and corrosion resistance.
